The Oncology Department provides diagnostic and therapeutic care for adult patients suffering from cancerous diseases and offers support to patients and their relatives. The objective is to ensure access to the best anticancer treatment, to offer adapted care, and to anticipate the needs of hospitalized patients (bone marrow transplant, cell therapy, immunotherapy, etc.). Concurrently, the Cancer Center enables the coordination of cross-functional activities dedicated to cancer issues between services and departments.

It brings together 4 services (hematology, oncology, precision oncology, and radiation oncology) and is composed of approximately 300 employees.

The radiation oncology service has the mission to evaluate the therapeutic indication of the patients referred to it and to provide them with information regarding radiotherapy.

A medical specialty responsible for the therapeutic use of ionizing radiation, radiation oncology is particularly used in the context of tumor diseases.

The service applies treatments with ionizing rays and carries out the clinical monitoring of patients, both during treatment and after its administration, in order to evaluate their response and to ensure their optimal tolerance to the treatment.

A university service, it is also dedicated to research and teaching.

Job Description ##

Within the radiation oncology service of the HUG, you will ensure nursing consultations, technical care, and clinical follow-up of patients managed on an outpatient basis. You will work on the service floor, in its four areas, notably those of ENT and breast. Your activity also includes nursing management of patients receiving high-dose-rate (HDR) vaginal brachytherapy.

You will mobilize your expertise in oncology to assess needs, ensure clinical monitoring, and contribute to the prevention and management of treatment side effects. You will adapt your interventions to the evolution of the situation, from a preventive, curative, or palliative perspective, and provide care pertaining to your autonomous role or a medical prescription.

Therapeutic education is an integral part of your activity. You will adapt information and advice to the needs of each person to promote their understanding of the treatment, their participation in care, and their autonomy.

You will work in close collaboration with radiation oncologist physicians, medical radiology technicians, medical physicists, and other professionals in the service. You will participate in the coordination of the care pathway and the continuity of care with intra- and extra-hospital partners.

You will document your assessments and interventions in the integrated patient file (DPI) and in ARIA. You will apply the radiation protection instructions specific to the activities of the service.

You will contribute to the improvement of practices and care processes, the enhancement of nursing activity, and the development projects of the service.

Qualifications ##

Your clinical judgment, your rigor, and your sense of organization allow you to establish priorities and to intervene autonomously in complex or urgent situations.

You possess 3 years of experience and combine qualities of listening, precision in communication, and aptitude for teamwork. You establish a relationship of trust with patients and contribute to respectful interprofessional collaboration.

You know how to face the emotional load of care situations, recognize your limits, and mobilize the necessary resources.

You demonstrate reliability, availability, and adaptability. You question your practices and are committed to updating your knowledge and developing your skills.

You participate in the internal mobility of the Oncology Department according to the organization defined by the care managers and the required skills.

Additional Information ##

Outpatient activity includes hours that can extend up to 7 p.m. Approximately twenty weeks per year, the nursing team operates on 3 × 8 shifts; you will then participate in the day, night, and weekend rotation.
