«Execution according to measure» is our motto at the Justizvollzugsanstalt Thorberg. We execute sanctions for 180 men from over 40 nations in closed custody. Our 130 employees work daily for the reintegration of offenders into society and thus make an important contribution to public safety. In eleven workshops, we lead and promote the admitted persons according to work-agogic principles. Our programs in the areas of work, therapy, education, sport, and leisure are consistently aimed at risk reduction and the social integration of the admitted persons.

The psychological assessment team creates a case summary for new admitted persons on the basis of files and interviews, performs a risk assessment, and creates an initial provisional execution plan. Additionally, it supervises admitted persons during a timeout in the assessment department.

Your tasks

• You provide [services] to persons admitted from the investigative prisons for criminal execution in the JVA Thorberg
• You carry out the study of criminal and execution files
• You lead psychological investigative interviews with the admitted persons
• You assess risks, collect resources and deficits of the prisoners, and derive execution goals from them
• You conduct psychological conversations for stabilization, assessment of current challenges, and promotion of resources with admitted persons during timeout placements
• You work in a small team of psychologists, but also very interdisciplinary with other professional groups in the JVA
• You help to manage everyday work in the assessment center

Your profile

• Master's degree in psychology (University or FH), preferably with focuses on psychopathology and/or forensics/legal psychology
• Resilient, stable, and self-confident personality
• Flexible, systematic, and reliable way of working
• Team player
• Mandatory good oral French skills. Further oral foreign language skills are very welcome
• Proficient PC user skills

About the Amt für Justizvollzug

The Amt für Justizvollzug (AJV) is responsible for the open and closed criminal and measure execution for adults and adolescents with approximately 1000 employees within the Sicherheitsdirektion of the Canton of Bern (SID). To fulfill this task, the office has at its disposal four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the monitoring station at the Inselspital, the detention management center, as well as probation and execution services.
