The Canton of Bern operates 4 regional prisons, the security station at Inselspital and the detention management center. Over 400 detention places serve the execution of investigation, security, deportation, extradition and police detention. In the regional prison in Thun, we are looking for a / an Certified Nurse HF/FH 40 %- 60 % (temporary until 2027, with option to extend) starting immediately or by arrangement.

Your tasks

• Treatment and care of admitted persons with somatic or psychological illnesses as well as in cocaine, heroin, benzodiazepine and alcohol withdrawal
• Systematic medical admission monitoring for new admissions
• Ensuring all medical administration, including maintaining the internal electronic patient record for the admitted persons
• Coordination and organization of doctor visits with internists, psychiatrist, psychologists and dentist. Professional implementation of the doctor-ordered instructions
• Requesting medical information and records from other institutions.
• Assistance in the management of the prison pharmacy while observing legal framework conditions and instructions of the pharmacist entrusted with the supervision
• Management of medical consumables as well as ordering, preparing and distributing the prescribed medications for the admitted persons
• Readiness to take on irregular work assignments and on-call services (no late shift/ no night watch

Your profile

• You have further trained as a certified nurse HF/FH or completed a comparable training and have already been able to gain several years of professional experience.
• You have no difficulty expressing yourself stylistically confidently in the German language, both orally and in writing. Good oral French skills will additionally facilitate your daily work routine. English and further foreign language skills are very desirable and an additional plus.
• Your independent and responsible way of working distinguishes you and promotes your loyal attitude towards the assignment and the institution. You are resilient, discreet and bring understanding for people from different cultural backgrounds.
• You show joy and skill in dealing with patients/admitted persons and value service-oriented behavior towards superiors, offices, authorities and other external bodies.
• For your personal development, we require the readiness for internal and external further training.

About the Amt für Justizvollzug

The Amt für Justizvollzug (AJV) is responsible for the open and closed execution of sentences and measures for adults and young people with around 1000 employees within the Sicherheitsdirektion of the Canton of Bern (SID). To fulfill this task, the office has four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the security station at Inselspital, the detention management center as well as the probation and execution services at its disposal.
