At Swiss TPH, an associated institute of the University of Basel, around 950 people from 90 nations work together with partners in over 120 countries to make science count in Switzerland and worldwide.

Our research includes basic research, epidemiology, and implementation research. The focus is on infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases along the entire spectrum – from biological mechanisms and disease patterns in populations to health systems and health policy frameworks. In doing so, our researchers combine experimental, clinical, and population-based approaches with the evaluation of interventions under real-world conditions.

For animal husbandry in the central laboratory at Swiss TPH, which makes an essential contribution to research and the diagnostics of various parasitoses, we are looking for the following, effective immediately or by arrangement:

Laboratory Animal Caretaker EFZ (30 – 80%)

Through close cooperation with scientists from various disciplines, you will support studies under the highest ethical standards and make a direct contribution to health research. The tasks in animal husbandry are so diverse that we can always use an extra helping hand. Weekend and holiday shifts are necessary, while observing the applicable rest periods.

YOUR TASKS INCLUDE:

• Professional care and cleaning of modern animal housing (“IVC housing”)

Daily monitoring and observation of the health status and well-being of the animals
Carrying out all work according to the applicable SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) as well as quality, hygiene, and animal welfare guidelines
Daily disinfection and preparation work of the animal housing rooms, cage systems, and working materials
Taking over regular animal checks and care shifts on weekends and holidays

YOU BRING THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Successfully completed training as Laboratory Animal Caretaker EFZ (or completed LTK 1) and experience with laboratory animals
High reliability, sense of responsibility, and strong powers of observation
Clear, goal-oriented, and audience-appropriate communication
Physical resilience, no allergies, and willingness for physical exertion
Ability to remain focused and calm even in stressful situations
Very good oral language skills in German and English
