The Federal Institute of Metrology METAS is the reference institute for measurements and measuring instruments in Switzerland. To ensure that a liter is always a liter (e.g., when refueling), METAS carries out calibrations, conformity assessments, and consultations for industry, research, and administration. Measurement accuracy creates trust, especially on a social and political level, and is essential in many areas: in road traffic, electricity billing, time transfer, measurements in the environmental and health sectors, etc. At METAS, different specialist fields meet and complement each other – and this has been the case since 1862.

Your new challenge

• Coordination and scientific leadership of a work package in an international research consortium for the standardization of liquid biopsy and ctDNA analyses for solid tumors
• Development, optimization, and application of dPCR- and NGS-based methods for the detection and quantification of molecular biomarkers
• Planning, implementation, and statistical evaluation of method validations and proficiency tests, as well as presentation and publication of scientific results
• Ensuring quality, metrological traceability, and international comparability of genomic measurements, as well as participating in the characterization of reference materials and reference measurement procedures
• Technical supervision of laboratory personnel as well as responsibility for operation, quality assurance, and further development of the measuring sites according to ISO/IEC 17025

Your profile

• University degree (MSc or PhD) in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, (laboratory) medicine, or a related field
• Sound knowledge of molecular biological analytical techniques, especially digital PCR and Next Generation Sequencing including bioinformatics, ideally with a focus on molecular tumor diagnostics
• Experience in the development, validation, and quality assurance of analytical methods, preferably in a regulated or accredited environment
• Experience in participating in or leading international research projects as well as enjoyment of interdisciplinary cooperation with research, industry, and regulatory partners
• Very good English skills in speaking and writing as well as good written and oral skills in German or French
